Starzl Transplantation Institute surgeons are part of the oldest and largest comprehensive transplant program in the world. On an average, an organ transplant is performed every 18 hours at UPMC Presbyterian or Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh of the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. Since 1981, nearly 12,000 transplants have been performed at UPMC, a single-center experience unmatched by any other program in the world.

Transplant surgeons throughout UPMC perform more types of organ transplants than do surgeons at any other facility worldwide.
